London’s Poet in the City brings poetry to life beyond books, producing classic and contemporary poetry performances taking on major ideas, issues and people. One of the UK’s leading poetry organizations, PITC showcases biopics, uses poetry to animate moments of cultural and social change, and creates dramatic poetry experiences in major arts venues and unusual spaces.
In 2019, Poet in the City worked with 150 artists, collaborated with 26 different partners on events and projects, developed 32 young people to become the poetry producers of the future, programmed innovative new work for schoolchildren, and put on 42 events for 8,000 live audience members. Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation thanks Poet in the City for its collaboration in creating films with poets Liz Berry, Theresa Lola, and Andrew McMillan, actors Paapa Essiedu and Juliet Stevenson, and more.
