Equinoctial

By Peter Halstead

Mirages flood
The end of the world
Heatwaves scud
Over soft-serve swirl
Feathering on the distant
Seethe of syncopated
Bay and endless breeze
Around the sea-grape
Weather and salt grime reef
As a rising dome
Of spray surrounds
Our tradewind home
A red-crested cardinal
Wings above the cape
The sun stands still
And the heightening squalls
Foam and sing
Around the tropical
And building sound
Of our celestial spring
