Imminent Oblivion

By Peter Halstead

1.
playing hooky
who could blame us
our very nature
flip side views
bold endeavors
our postcards
telling all
before the fall

2.
ripples intervene
endless pulse
the islands of the sky
on the edges
lost to words
winds of water
liquid evening
sunset’s chandelier
where even air
is near

3.
through which the sky
of waves that shimmer
a quick collage
a photographer’s mistake
sunscreened
and colorfast
in any case
another version
of your face

4.
incandescent metaphors
compose the breeze
semaphores
translations
equivalents
solarized
from simple hints
their running shadows
and swirl of wind
the current indigo

5.
drifting liquid light
in between
layers juxtapose
sea’s seam
although up close
equivalents
of endless moonlit
phosphorescence

6.
what the earth has done
the sky will do
spring’s repeating
blooms again
now transfigured
the stars imply
pictures overrun
their edges
without ends
overflowing panoramas
out of order
without their commas

7.
near infinities
unpaginated
even sun
hints nothing
but luxuriant recall
this time
disconnected
where the future
stalls

8.
our broken star
beating earth
an echo
dreams that froze
insufficient labyrinths
season’s winding
shine the hours
rings of morning
into prisms of the sky
slow the time
ascension and decline

9.
rusted by the stars
into artificial spaces
and aligning faces
trade wind’s fire
pinwheeled
and luciferined
gliding places
where memory saves
for last
the dazzling
edges of the eye
bursts of growing night
river in the sky
frozen now
in dark light

10.
again at dawn
picture-perfect
fields of view
the brilliant rim
against the chaos
sky’s transparent screen
our own astronomies
the slip and whim
of sky’s celestial drive
drifting spellbound
every passing spark
of spill and weave
sheet lightning
in the park
in the current time
of grief and dark
