Solar Panels

By Peter Halstead

For our 40th Anniversary

Stars that random breezes plant
Gather up the spoils of ground,
The solar residue of land,
Cotyledons gowned

In newborn chloroplast,
Petioles put out like solar flares,
Stone age branches cast
At atomic skies like fanfares,

As earth’s celestial fruits
Writhe and climb
Around the human roots
With which our primal mornings rhyme.
