Aldo Amparán

Aldo Amparán is a poet raised in El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. They hold an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Amparán published their first book of poetry, the Alice James Award–winning Brother Sleep, in 2022. Brother Sleep garnered acclaim for its mournful and sharply meditative exploration of life suspended between places and grief over a brother’s death. It was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry in 2023 and a semifinalist for the 2023 Housatonic Book Award in poetry.

Amparán’s poetry has appeared in publications including Best New Poets, Poetry, Gulf Coast, and New England Review, among others. Their second book, The House Has Teeth, is set to be published by Alice James Books in September of 2026. A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and CantoMundo, Amparán currently teaches creative writing at the University of Texas at El Paso.
