Film poems at the Highlanes Gallery
From July 6th through September 7th, the Highlanes Gallery will be featuring two of our film poems in their exhibition Embracing Vision: Celebrating 100 Years of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland.
Visit the gallery in Drogheda to view our films of Sarah Clancy's "Cherishing for Beginners" and Sasha Terfous' "Identity.," directed by Matthew Thompson and created with Poetry Ireland and IMMA, and Poetry Ireland's film of Molly Twomey's "The Citizen's Wife." The visual art of contemporary artists Selma Makela, Francis Matthews, and Anna O’Leary will also be featured.
The exhibition marks the centenary of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland (FNCI) and showcases works gifted to the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection by the FNCI since the Collection’s inception in 1946. The exhibition was organized by Poetry Ireland and Highlanes Gallery with curation by a curatorial research group in Highlanes Gallery comprised of teachers from secondary and other education settings.
Through the exhibition, whose works were commissioned by the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation, Poetry Ireland, ANU, Landmark, and MoLI, the curatorial panel explores the aspirations of the FNCI and the impact of its ambition on Ireland’s growing sense of cultural and national identity.
