(Host Camille Rankine)
Welcome to The Glimpse.
(Poet Rachel McKibbens)
I have had to really push myself to be a poet and not a murderer.
(Host Camille Rankine)
It’s a place for poets, poems, and you.
I’m your host, Camille Rankine.
Poet, poetry lover, and the author of Incorrect Merciful Impulses.
Each episode we speak with one poet about two poems:
one of their own and another that has inspired their work.
(Poet John Murillo)
if we're honest with ourselves, and we just write without any shoulds, right? We SHOULD write about love. We SHOULD write about politics. You SHOULD write about social justice. If we just write—- those things that occupy our minds and souls will out themselves on the page.
(Host Camille Rankine)
From page to podcast, The Glimpse offers a peek behind the process and the politics.
(Poet Solmaz Sharif)
I think my relationship to silence started from a very contentious place in thinking in terms of those who are silenced, narratives that are silenced, lives that are silenced...
(Poet Ama Codjoe)
People often talk about the solitude of making poems, but it is so communal...
(Host Camille Rankine)
Our guests this season include Solmaz Sharif, John Murillo, Chen Chen, Ama Codjoe, Rachel McKibbens, Kaveh Akbar, and Hafizah Geter.
(Poet Hafizah Geter)
Whenever I get stuck, I just pull Carl Phillips down and be like, show me something, you know, it's kind of like, when black people will have a meal so good, it makes them mad.
(Poet Kaveh Akbar)
And I feel like the experience of poetry. It's like the only art form that we sort of strap to a gurney and try to beat a confession out of, you know what I mean?
